Today's lesson is all about building your vocabulary.
What's up everyone? My name is Wes. This is interactive English,
which is all about helping you practice and improve your English skills.
And the way we're going to do that today is by building your vocabulary.
I am going to teach you some advanced adjectives that you can use to describe
And this is useful because we often like to talk about ourselves and describe
our personality and as well as talk about those around us.
So I'm going to teach you the meaning of the word as well as give you an example
sentence so that you can see how the adjective is used in context.
These advanced words also happen to be some of my favorite adjectives.
So are you ready? Let's begin.
The first word that I have for you is frank.
And what it means is that that somebody is very direct in the way that they
speak. They're very open, they're honest. They,
they're not shy about telling you what's on their mind.
You would say that that person is frank.
Often I think of somebody making the statement and saying, you know,
I'm going to be frank with you. I'm getting ready to tell you what's on my mind.
I'm not going to hold back. I'm going to be frank with you.
So if you are somebody who is serious about improving your English skills,
improving your grammar, vocabulary, speaking, then I want to be frank with you.

The next word I have for you is boisterous.
And this adjective means someone who is energetic,
cheerful, and may even be a bit.
So I think that it's not always a permanent part of your personality.
Perhaps somebody is usually boisterous,
but I think all of us can be boisterous from time to time.
I think it depends on the situation, the people that we're with,
and if we're really loud and energetic and cheerful, then somebody might say,
wow, you are boisterous.
And what this word means is somebody who is continuing to do something or trying
to do something in a very determined way,
but often kind of an unreasonable way that you are just not going to give up.
You are persistent and you're going to keep going until you,
you achieve your goal and you get what you want.
So it can be a good thing and that, you know, don't give up.
Always be persistent, keep trying.
But it may also be a bad thing because if somebody is too persistent that that
could get a bit annoying and you might want that person to go away and you tell
them, get the hell outta here. You persistent little. So keep that in mind.
If you're thinking about whether or not you should be persistent.
Next is unassuming and this means somebody who is not arrogant,
somebody who is not trying to get all of the attention.
And I think it's usually describing somebody's personality and you might say
that somebody has an unassuming manner that they don't try to stand out and get
all the attention. They can be rather unassuming.
The next adjective is intimidating and this is not a good word if somebody is
using it to describe you because what it means is that somebody is making you
So we could say that somebody might have an intimidating personality or maybe if
you're just looking at their face, perhaps they have an intimidating look.
The next word, and, and this is one that I really like, is pragmatic.
It means that somebody is solving a problem in a sensible way,
that you are taking a realistic approach in trying to solve this problem.
So I often think of somebody who has a lot of common sense who is very
reasonable. You could say that they are pragmatic.
I like to think of myself as being pragmatic, but,
but I'll be frank with you if you know that that's not always the case.
Now this is not a good adjective to describe another person because it means
that someone is trying to appear smarter
and sound a bit more clever than they really are.
So I often think somebody who might be talking about art or or literature and
the, they're trying to pretend that they know so much.
You could say that this person, that they're being a little pretentious,
The next adjective is cynical and a another.
It's another good one because I think I can definitely be cynical and it's just
the belief that that other people are motivated by their own self interests.
So for example, I think especially when it comes to politics,
I'm a bit cynical. I think many people are cynical when,
So that's a great example as to when you might hear or even use this word,
The next adjective and, and this is a little more slang and that is cocky.
And if someone is cocky, it just means that they are confident,
usually in a bit of an arrogant and unpleasant way.
And it can be kind of rude if somebody cocky because that means that they think
that they're the best. They're number one. And you would say that, okay,
this person is cocky. I think we often use this word when,
when talking about sports and competition and people always like to say how,
how good they are or that they're going to beat their opponent.
And you could say, you know, yeah, they're, they're being a bit cocky.
I think all of us have been cocky at one point or another,
whether it's talking about, you know, our, our school performance,
our work performance, or like I said, sports.
Next is conceited and this should be easy because it has a similar meaning to
cocky. So somebody who is conceited,
it just means that they are too proud of their actions and abilities.
They think very highly of themselves and you could say, okay,
this person is a bit conceited.
The next adjective is vain and it also has a bit of a similar meaning to
conceded and cocky. So if somebody is vain,
it just means that they have a strong interest in their appearance or,
But often I think it's usually talking about somebody's appearance,
the way that they look, the way they style their hair,
and maybe they're always looking at themselves in the mirror and thinking, wow,
I am just so amazing. Then you could say, you know that that person, they're pretty vain.
which is a positive adjective.
If you want to describe someone who has the ability to avoid offending others or
, or even hurting their feelings that this is a person who's great at,
at solving problems. If people are having, uh,
some sort of conflict or you would want somebody to help them,
help them solve the problem and you need somebody who is diplomatic.
The next word is affable. And if somebody is affable,
that just means that they are friendly and easy to talk to.
So you might be talking about your friend, your neighbor, your teacher,
your boss, and you could say, wow, they're there. They're affable.
They're easy to get along with, easy to talk to, very friendly.
I think I could say that all of you are affable because you're very easy to talk to.

Now I think many of you might be familiar with is adjective because to chat to
So if you're describing somebody and you're saying that they are chatty,
it means that they are talking a lot and usually in an informal way.
So if somebody is chatty, they'll pretty much talk to you about anything.
Then we have one more word that I just wanted to give you,
but this word is a noun. It's not an adjective,
but it's also a word that can be used to describe someone. And that is a klutz.
And if someone is a klutz, then that just means that they are very clumsy. Uh,
you know, perhaps a little foolish, a little awkward. I often associate it with,
with somebody who's clumsy and I think of a person who's always knocking things
over or dropping things. And I think, wow,
that that person there are real klutz.
So that's a bonus one for you because it's not an adjective, it's a noun,
but it's one that I think we can all relate to because at one point or another,
I think we've all been a klutz and you know, we've just been clumsy.
So I want to be diplomatic in my approach and I certainly don't want to be
