WHEN TO USE IT

You use the present simple to talk about:

1 things that you do again and again, i.e. routines, customs and habits.

e.g. I go to school every day.

Before he goes to bed Jerry drinks a cup of milk.

2 things that are true in general and do not change.

e.g. He has got blue eyes.

Whales live in oceans.

You can use averbs of frequency: never, sometimes, rarely, often,usually,ever,never, always etc.. or

you can use adverbs of time: every day, every week, month, year ,morning, afternoon, evening ,night ,Sunday, January, etc.

a) You put the adverbs of frequency before the main verb.

e.g. I often go out at weekend.

b) after to be.

e.g. He is always at home at weekends.

c) you use expressions with every at the beginning or at the end of a sentence.

e.g. Every Sunday she visits her grandparents.

HOW TO FORM IT

Positive

I/we/you/they play

He/she/it plays

Negative

I/we/you/they don't play

He/she/it doesn't play

Question

Do I/we/you/they play?

Does he/she/it play?

Short answers

Yes, I/we/you/they do. Yes, he/she/it does.

No, I/we/you/they don't. No, he/she/it doesn't.

WHAT ABOUT SPELLING?

a) Add -s to most verbs

live lives

b) Add -es to verbs ending in ch, o, s, sh, and x

watch watches go goes

miss misses brush brushes

fix fixes

c) Change y into i+es

carry carries

worry worries
