It is holistic. It studies people froom every possible angle- biological, cultural, archeological, linguistic, historical and more.
It is cross-cultural, which means that it considers every way of life in every place on earth.
It is comparative, compelling us to situate ourselves in global and historical context.
Teaching anthropology is teaching about cultural diversity. When students get to now people whose lives differ vastly from their own, respect comes naturally.
Stories become truths which connect us to each other. Sustainability becomes a real and pressing concern - as the losses of our history inform our plans for the future.
All of human experience is tied together into one coherent system and we are given a way to make sense of our world!
